An R&D designer with years research experiences in the field of semiconductor physics. Yanfeng Lao is currently an R&D Manager at Hisense Photonics Inc. He focuses on lasers, photodetectors, and researches of III-V semiconductors for applications in telecommunications and data centers. Understanding the physics behind the phenomena is always the most intriguing. He finds it fascinating about new concept development.
Currently R&D Engineering at Hisense Photonics Inc with specialties in optoelectronic material and device researches, specialized in semiconductor lasers and photodetectors; Ph.D. degree in microelectronics and solid-state electronics, where the focus had been on developing 1310-nm Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers. At Hisense Photonics, new laser product design and processing development have been carried out, including transitioning into mass production, and iterative yield improvement. I own original designs of several device platforms, including VCSEL, DFB, EML, EML-SOA, tunable EML lasers, heterojunction / quantum-well / quantum-dot infrared photodetectors.
My specialties include device design, III-V epitaxy, material characterization & device testing, process development & wafer fab, with extensive experiences in optoelectronic device physics, along with track record of peer-reviewed publications. Familiarity with product lifecycle management; achievement of R&D transitioning into mass production. I have great interests in developing new concept devices.
I was a researcher working on III-V material research and photodetection. Developed a hot-carrier detection concept which is capable of responding in an extended wavelength range, and several p-type photodetectors. I also have fundamental researches in resolving the valence band structure, determining heterojunction band offsets using internal photo-emission spectroscopy, and computational research on dielectric function modeling.
